thoughtful, interesting and science-based introduction to aquaculture Review by National Aquaculture Association
Dr. Trushenski’s unique career as an Associate Professor at Southern Illinois University focused on farmed fish nutrition, Fish Pathologist Supervisor for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and Director of Science for Riverence and its sister company, Evaqua Farms, (producers of steelhead, rainbow trout, coho and Atlantic salmon eggs) provides her with invaluable grounding in the art and science of fish farming. Fortunately for all of us, she has not rested on her accomplishments and has written a thoughtful, interesting and science-based introduction to aquaculture. Throughout the book, Dr. Trushenski describes the progress that has been made by the aquaculture research and farming communities to address aquaculture criticisms and the critics that have been reluctant, or unwilling, to recognize that fish are sustainably farmed. She also reveals the unappreciated reality that growing and nurturing environmentally-friendly fish is inextricably woven into the fabric of being a farmer in the 21st century. - Jim Parsons, President, National Aquaculture Association (Posted on 28/11/2018)
a valuable contribution Review by Mr. Courtney Hough
'The recognised need to produce more nutritious and healthy food while optimising resource use and increasing efficiency has also highlighted the potential for increased aquaculture production. Marine aquaculture has been identified in many areas of the world as being capable of being a major contributor but needs social acceptance for its successful development. “Understanding aquaculture” highlights the science that counters the myths laid at the door of aquaculture and is a valuable contribution for improved understanding of its processes and activities.' - Mr. Courtney Hough, General Secretary, Federation of European Aquaculture Producers (Posted on 22/11/2018)
