There already are many dog books, but this one is unique in its science-based approach. Grigg and Donaldson make good on their promise that their book focuses on "the science," delivering content that is clear, engaging, and relevant... The authors have synthesized several important observational and experimental academic papers relevant to the above topics. As an ethologist, this reviewer views this text as a valuable compilation—thoughtful, comprehensive, well referenced, appealingly presented, and with relevant illustrations. It equips readers to appreciate the behavior of both their dogs and themselves...The passages on euthanasia decisions are, rightfully, tearjerkers.
